Dot Day Activity

Image
Description International Dot Day is around September 15th, but we celebrated it on February 17th! We listened to a book called "The Dot" written by Peter H. Reynolds. It was a super cute story that showed that anyone can be an artist. After we listened to the read-aloud book, we all grabbed a coffee filter. Our task was to use at-least four different mediums on the coffee filter. I used markers, oil pastels, chalk, and crayons. Once you were done creating your dot artwork, you used watercolor paint, water, and a paintbrush to blend the different mediums together.  Extension Activity First, we will listen to a "Dot Day Song" to get into the Dot Day spirit! For our project, the students will get to deign their own circular button pin. Once they design it, then they can pin it to their clothes and wear it around! They can use whatever medium they want and get creative.

Students will get a plain white t-shirt and must try to think of as many patterns to put on the shirt as they can. This will allow them to get very creative and have their own shirt to wear afterwards. During this activity, students might find patterns that show rhythm, unity, variety, and other elements/principals of...
