Elements and Principles of Art
Elements and Principles of Art Project
During this activity, we went on a scavenger hunt to take 12 photos of the elements and principles of art. The elements and principles of art include: line, shape, texture, space, value, color, balance, movement, contrast, unity/variety, emphasis, and pattern. Once we got 12 photos, we got with a partner and created a presentation to use to teach our future students. We had to select a grade level and create definitions that are appropriate for that age group. Below are my top 5 favorite photos that I captured for this project.
Project Extension
Students will be learning about patterns while also designing their own shirt. Students will get a plain white t-shirt and must try to think of as many patterns to put on the shirt as they can. This will allow them to get very creative and have their own shirt to wear afterwards. During this activity, students might find patterns that show rhythm, unity, variety, and other elements/principals of design. We can then discuss those with the class.
TOP 5 FAVORITE PHOTOS

Space: This picture shows the depth of the lake and the sky.
Texture: I chose this picture because it shows the different textures of the snow and grass on the ground.
Contrast: I chose this picture because it shows the contrast between the reds and greens.
Pattern: This picture shows pattern and repetition on a rug.
